The 4 C’s of Diamonds
The 4 C’s of diamonds are known as Carat, Clarity, Color and Cut.
Carat is a unit of measurement for gem stones and pearls. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams (200 mg). Sanguine Gem Stones offers finished diamond jewelry ranging from less than 1 carat total weight (1 ct tw) to 3 carats total weight (3 ct tw).
Clarity refers to internal characteristics of a diamond (sometimes called inclusions) or external characteristics of a diamond (sometimes called blemishes). The scale of clarity can range from Flawless (FL), Internally Flawless (IF), Very Very Slightly Included (VVS), Very Slightly Included (VS), Slightly Included (SI) and Included (I).
Color refers to transparency of the hue or color. The purest diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless. Lab grown diamonds and Moissanite offers gem stones in colors not found in natural mined diamonds.
Cut refers to symmetry of a diamond. There are 10 cuts with Round Brilliant as the most common cut. Other cuts include Asscher, Cushion, Emerald, Heart, Marquise, Oval, Pear, Princess and Radiant.
